FoxSnip help
Current as of FoxSnip 0.4.2 (2026-10-06). Maintained by FoxPack.
This page is the short map: shortcuts that exist in the app, what the OS must allow, which files you can export, and what stays on the machine. The changelog is where a change shows up first.
First minute
Install, capture, annotate, copy. If that path fails, the rest of the site does not matter.
- Press the screenshot shortcut. Change it in Settings, or let FoxSnip take over the system screenshot keys.
- Drag a region. The annotate toolbar sits under the selection. Tools use single-letter shortcuts.
- Copy with ⌘C on macOS or Ctrl+C on Windows. Nothing is uploaded.
Shortcuts shipped in 0.4.x
These are the ones called out in the changelog, not a complete keymap. The full set lives in Settings.
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Capture | Global shortcut, editable in Settings. Optional: take over the system screenshot keys. |
| Annotate tools | Single letters, same on the inline toolbar and in the editor. |
| Copy | ⌘C / Ctrl+C |
| Upload / share link | U on the selection bar. Press again while it spins to cancel. |
| Region record | N on the inline annotate bar. |
Permissions
On macOS, capturing other apps needs Screen Recording under System Settings → Privacy & Security. Until that is allowed, other windows stay blank or missing. If you denied it once, turn it on and relaunch FoxSnip.
Windows 10/11 does not use that macOS permission. Capture uses the desktop session you are logged into.
Region recording can draw pointer and key overlays. That overlay is local. It is not a keylogger, and those strokes are not uploaded with a normal copy or save.
Export
- Stills: copy or save from the selection. Projects are
.snipcanvases. - After you pause on a region, record inside that frame and export GIF (gifski), WebP, or MP4 (the system encoder). You can set FPS, a delayed start, and export defaults in Settings when you are on Plus.
What stays on the device
By default, all of this stays local and works offline:
- Region, window, full screen, and scrolling capture
- Annotation, redaction, pin, history
- Plain-text OCR and QR reading
- Local export and
.snipprojects - Region recording
What leaves, and only if you ask
Pro cloud features upload the selection you start them on. They are not on during a normal copy. As of this writing they are waitlist-only — the app does not charge for Pro until they ship. When they are on, the privacy policy is:
| Feature | What is uploaded | How long it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Formula, table, chemical-symbol recognition | The image you submit | Processed, then deleted. Not used to train models. |
| Cloud translation | The text or image you submit | Same: processed, then deleted. |
| Share link | The image you choose to publish | Until you delete the link, or it expires (7 or 30 days). Optional password and open limit. |
Delete a share link from the app. Plain-text OCR never uploads the image and does not spend Pro credits.

License, without the pricing table
- 15-day trial unlocks every Plus feature. No card.
- Plus is $12 / ¥80 once. You keep using it. There is no yearly update fee.
- Commercial use is allowed on the trial and on Plus.
- Pro is the optional cloud subscription ($48/year or $6/month; ¥320/year in China). Three months of Pro includes a Plus license.
When something breaks
0.4.2 does not list an open bug in the changelog. If you hit one, email [email protected] with the version from the app's About window, the OS, and what you expected the shortcut or export to do. That report is how the next changelog entry gets written.
