# Changelog

Version history and improvements for FoxSnip.

## 0.4.2 — 2026-10-06

Window capture highlights stay aligned, and copy can include your default look.

## Window capture

- Moving from a large window into a smaller one keeps the highlight on the window you will capture, instead of shifting toward where the cursor came from.
- Window picking skips raised full-screen transparent layers such as Dock overlays, so the app underneath is easier to select.

## Copy

- New setting **Apply default preset when copying**. When it is on, Copy on the selection bar puts the default background, watermark, and style on the clipboard. When it is off, you get the framed screen as it is.

## 0.4.1 — 2026-10-06

The screenshot stays put while it uploads, and you can cancel while the button is still spinning. Turn limits on only when you want them.

## Upload

- On the selection bar, a pin, or the annotate window, Upload becomes a spinner. Click it again, or press **U**, to cancel.
- The selection stays until the upload succeeds, then the share link opens. A failure or a cancel leaves the selection where it is.
- Pins and the annotate window use the same spinner and cancel. The window itself stays open.

## Share link

- Link settings is a checkbox. Leave it off and the link is unchanged. Turn it on to set a password, how long it stays open, how many times it can be opened, and download.
- With the checkbox and the password on, copying the link also copies a line that says the password in the current language.

## Selection

- On a small selection, the pause menu moves aside so Close, Copy, Save, and Upload on the toolbar stay clickable.

## 0.4.0 — 2026-10-05

Take a screenshot and hand a teammate a link. No export, no extra upload step.

## Share link

- When FoxSnip is activated and the plan includes team sharing, upload from the screenshot bar (to the right of Save, shortcut **U**), from a pin, or from the annotate window.
- The first upload opens the browser to authorize. Coming back continues that upload, and a pinned image stays on screen.
- When the upload finishes, the share link is ready. Link settings stay collapsed: copy the link and that image is what they open.
- Expand settings only when you need them: a 4-letter password (regenerate or copy on its own), how long it stays open (including no limit), how many times it can be opened, and whether download is allowed. They apply when you press Done.
- With the password on, copying the link also copies a line that says the password in the current language.

## Annotate

- The right side of the header is undo, redo, fit, text recognition, upload, then background preset. The color readout stays on the left.
- Fit uses an arrows-in icon. Text recognition opens a row of icons (text, table, math, chemistry) with a tooltip on hover and a small downward triangle on the button.
- Copy is no longer in the header. The File menu and ⌘C still copy.

## Language

- Settings can switch to Traditional Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, or keep following the system.

## 0.3.1 — 2026-10-04

Pin no longer freezes your work into a flat image: pin from annotate, then choose Edit to keep working on the same layers.

## Pin and annotate

- Pinning from the annotate window keeps the live vector layers, background, 3D, and watermark state—nothing baked yet.
- Edit on the pin reopens annotate with the same layout in pixel space, without trimming margins away.

## Region record

- The record button on the inline annotate bar responds to **N**.

## 0.3.0 — 2026-10-03

After you pause on a region, record what happens inside that frame—with your annotations— as GIF, WebP, or MP4 without opening a separate recorder.

## Region record

- A camera button on the inline annotate bar starts recording in the same selection with the same drawing tools.
- The hole shows live pixels while recording; strokes and effects bake into the export on a timeline.
- When you stop, scrub, trim, and export to GIF (gifski), WebP, or MP4 (system encoders).
- The record bar offers FPS, delayed start, pause, retake, and a mini playback capsule.
- Plus: pointer/key overlays, keyboard filtering, and export defaults in Settings.

## Other

- Diagnostic logging is centralized in core for easier capture/export timing.

## 0.2.1 — 2026-10-03

Mosaic is no longer one fixed grid: tap the mosaic tool for a texture flyout—same pattern as shapes—pick a style, then drag to redact.

## Annotation

- Inline toolbar and annotate editor expose a mosaic texture flyout: classic, dots, stripes, frost, brick, solid, smooth blur, and secure blur.
- New frost and brick textures for clearer redaction choices.
- The side panel still adjusts style and block size on selected mosaic layers.

## 0.2.0 — 2026-10-02

Annotate right on the selection without opening the full editor first. Tool shortcuts use single letters. With **Capture FoxSnip** enabled, OCR panels appear in the next screenshot.

## Screenshots

- After you pause on a region, an annotation toolbar sits under the selection. Copy or save keeps your marks.
- The dwell menu’s OCR row expands to text, table, formula, and related entries (remote engines rolling out).
- Type Chinese in the overlay; drag arrow endpoints and midpoints to bend curves.
- **Capture FoxSnip** includes the OCR overlay in still captures; picker chrome stays excluded.
- Screenshot hotkeys work again if an overlay closed without cleaning up.

## Annotation

- The annotate editor supports single-letter tool shortcuts, aligned with the inline toolbar.
- Shape tools expose variant flyouts (stroke/fill, rounded corners, and more); filled polygon added.
- Text layers refit their background boxes when baked onto a larger canvas so padding matches the type size.
- Coincident arrow endpoints no longer snap into a default diagonal.

## 0.1.2 — 2026-09-30

After the trial, entering a license lets you keep working. The trial-ended dialog does not come back.

## App

- If you enter a license from the trial-ended dialog, going back to annotate no longer shows “Your trial has ended” again.
- Activation takes effect in the current session. You do not have to relaunch.
- Dialogs you already closed stay closed when you switch away and come back, instead of floating over annotate.

## 0.1.1 — 2026-09-27

License, translation, and updates are scoped to this product, so FoxSnip and FoxClip stay out of each other’s way.

## App

- License, translation, background removal, and update checks identify this copy as FoxSnip, so they are not mixed up with FoxClip.
- Update checks include an app id, so you get FoxSnip’s own releases.

## 0.1.0 — 2026-09-27

Grab a shot you can use right away: a region, a window, or the full screen. Mark it up, then copy or save it.

## Capture

- Region, window, full screen, and the previous selection.
- Scrolling capture that stops when it reaches the end.
- Global shortcuts you can change in Settings, including whether to take over the system screenshot keys.
- Capturing several displays at once no longer stalls.
- Fixed sizes, and frames that snap to controls inside a window.

## Annotate

- Arrows, shapes, text, redaction, step numbers, and a magnifier.
- Text can have a fill and rounded corners, and the box hugs the glyphs.
- 3D, rotate and flip, watermark, and background styles.
- Several images on one canvas, saved as a project you can open again.
- Copy to the clipboard. If compositing fails, you still get the original image.

## Use the image

- A new shot appears on screen so you can annotate it, pin it to the desktop, or find it later in history.
- Read the text in an image, or translate the image or the text.
- Read QR codes.

## App

- FoxSnip stays in the menu bar. While annotate, Settings, About, or License is open, it also appears in the Dock and the menu bar so you can switch back.
- Those windows stay above the annotate window. They step aside when you switch to another app, and return in the same order when you come back.
- The capture bar no longer covers a dialog you just opened.
- After the trial, basic screenshots keep working. Plus and Pro features open the pricing page.
- Activate this Mac with a license. FoxSnip checks for updates on its own.
