FoxClip help
Current as of the 0.4.2 changelog (2026-10-06). Maintained by FoxPack.
FoxClip is the macOS screen recorder. FoxSnip is the screenshot app. This page is only FoxClip: permissions, export, and what never leaves the Mac.
Permissions
macOS asks before FoxClip can see or hear anything outside its own window. Allow these under System Settings → Privacy & Security, then relaunch if a recording comes out blank or silent:
| When you need it | Permission |
|---|---|
| Record other apps or the desktop | Screen Recording |
| Microphone, or system audio | Microphone |
| Camera overlay | Camera |
Click and cursor tracking used for auto-zoom stays on the Mac with the project. It is not uploaded.
Export
From the changelog, export is:
- MP4 and MOV — H.264, HEVC, or ProRes
- GIF
- A Final Cut project
- Audio only, when that is all you need
Free export is 1080p with a small FoxClip mark in the corner. Pro removes the watermark and unlocks 4K 60fps. Metal-accelerated encoding runs locally in both tiers. Capture can already be up to 4K 60fps before you export; 144fps and HDR are not shipping yet.
Offline
Recording, auto-zoom, editing, and export do not need a network. FoxClip does not upload footage, window titles, or a transcript. There is no cloud render step.
The only conversations with our servers are the ones you start: buying or activating Pro (order email, license key, a hashed machine id), update checks, and email if you write to support. The marketing site's analytics scripts are not inside the app.
License
- Free, forever, no card: recorder, auto-zoom, editor, unlimited 1080p exports, one Mac. Commercial use is allowed.
- Pro is $69 once at the founder price, $79 afterwards. Two Macs. One year of feature updates. Renewing is optional — the version you bought keeps working, and bugfix updates continue.
- 14-day refund, no reason required: Refunds.
When something breaks
Email [email protected] with the version, the macOS version, and whether Screen Recording was allowed. Pro mail is answered first; Free mail is answered as time allows. Don't file a chargeback before writing — the refund page explains what happens to the key if you do.
